Rain rain, go away....

It's been raining all day today, both in the village and on the mountains. This is bad news for the precious snow that we have. Everyone is praying to Ullr that the temps drop by just a few degrees to turn all of this useful precipitation into snow. Fortunately I was working inside the Glacier Creek retail store today so I wasn't out in the weather, except for my ride down in the morning and the ride from Rendezvous to the bottom at the end of the day. The snow is actually better today than it was two days ago, however we will be mountain biking next week if the rain continues.

I picked up my new board last Thursday night and it is dead sexy!!! Burton Custom 158cm with black Mission bindings. It is the 10th anniversary of the Custom so Burton have released some cool art to celebrate. Ben got the 162cm Custom which has slightly different art. I'm being extremely disciplined and am not going to take it out until the snow comes. As you can see I have already "Custom"ised it.

I also picked up my new sexy boots. They are Nitro Darkseid. I wore them for the first time today and they are soooo comfy. Got a great deal on them too so smiles all round.

Phil, Kat and I took a freestyle lesson on Blackcomb last Friday. It was a really fun day. We learned all sorts of tricks that I am looking forward to practicing tomorrow (if it's not raining). We are all a lot more confident on rails and boxes now that we know the golden rule: Keep your hands between the rail and your teeth. Kat pulled the sickest move of the day. She mis-timed the take off onto one of the harder fun boxes, clipped the front, slid along the entire fun box on her stomach, then did a front flip off the end, followed by a double cartwheel. It drew applause from our instructor Craig and Phil and I where trying hard not to wet ourselves from laughing. Craig showed us some cool freestyle terrain that will be lots of fun when the snow comes. We finished off the day with a couple of jugs at the GLC. Ben, Bron and I watched Spy Game on Ben's laptop in the evening.

The ghost of Ben!

Three quarters of Brio staff housing and I went disco ice skating down at the Meadow Park Sports Center on Saturday night. We all had a groovy time. Unfortunately I forgot that every time I go ice skating, I end up with extremely bruised ankles so I was unable to wear my snowboarding boots for a few days after that. Fortunately I have been working at Rendezvous so I haven't had to ride down to Glacier Creek.

We had dinner with Tim and Kirstin from Wellington at The Old Spaghetti Factory which was quite good value. All meals come with complementary soup, bread, ice cream and coffee. Pop was $2.50 for a bottomless cup. I had a veil parmigiana, all the free stuff and about 4 pints of ice tea. The walk home was painful.

Sunday night was the Brio staff housing Christmas party at The Keg bar and restaurant. We had a booking for 40 people at 7pm so Bron and I donned our costumes and rocked up about 15 minutes late. We were the only ones there until about 8:30pm when everyone else finally decided to arrive. $6 martinis went down a treat however I still managed to spend my entire weeks lunch money before the week had even begun. Katherine and Anna won the $100 bar tab for the best costume.

A bunch of us had tickets to go see a DJ called Hed Candy at Garfinkles so we headed over there at about 10:30pm. He put on a great set and we were all still on the dance floor when the lights came on at 2am. I had already decided that I would suffer the consequences of no sleep and $6 martinis at work the next day. The day wasn't as bad as I thought it would be so no regrets.

It snowed a bit on Monday for the first time in over a week. We got a good 5cm or so. My boss organised a get together for all of the retail guys at Merlins for Monday night. I arrived at 6pm like he said and had a few beers with Adam (BSS Supervisor (Blackcomb Ski and Sports)). Lucky he was there because apparently the real starting time was 7pm.

We headed over to Tommy Africa's for 80's night at about 9:30 and boogied until I could't keep my eyes open anymore. Since I had to work again today I decided to shoot off at about 12:30.

Might head 'round to Phil's for a DVD tonight. No work tomorrow. I'll go boarding if it's not raining.
