Man it's tough keeping up with this blog. So much happens in between posts that I have a hard time remembering exactly what did and didn't happen. Fortunately I take an unusually large number of photos and keep a list of daily highlights in a pocket diary so I will be referring to them now.

Me, Kerri, Kat, Holly, Louise
Back to Wednesday last week (7th Dec). Caught the gondy up Whistler with Kat. I promised Kerri I give her a snowboard lesson so today was the day. We met Kerri, Holly and Louise out the front of the Roundhouse and headed over to the family zone to begin the lesson. Kerri did quite well for her second day on a board. I had a hold of her for the top half of the Ego Bowl but by the tail end she was leafing it down like a Wiggle (the hand movements were authentic I tell you). Kat gave Louise a lesson and Holly worked on her turns (she has the same board that I am getting). After a couple of runs, Kat and I left the newbies to practice on the bunny hills and headed out to find some un-tracked runs of our own. We slid over to the Harmony chair and rode the Burnt Stew trail (named after Mertyl Phillips, an early pioneer of the area who burnt their stew after hiking there one day). It's probably our favorite area at the moment. Rolling meadows of snow. The only downside is the 2Km cat track leading out of it. Serious leg burn.
The highlight of the day for me was landing my first ever 360. I was stoked. I think my next goal will be a back flip. Might wait for a bit more snow before I attempt that.

Anna, Kate, Me, Kerri, Kat
After a full day on the hill, a bunch of us headed out to the Crystal Lounge to celebrate Anna's birthday. Their tapas menu is quite nice. I had marinated mushrooms.
After a few dinner and a few jugs we all headed off the Buffalo Bills which is the Wednesday night hot spot. I dropped my camera walking down the stairs and of course it wasn't in it's Altoids tin. No damage. We had a great time busting a move until the early hours of the morning. I limited my Molson intake because I didn't want to spoil the next day's snow boarding adventure.
Kat was supposed to meet me at the bottom of the gondola at 9am however I wasn't surprised when 9:15 came along and she hadn't. I headed up by myself hoping to find someone at the top to hang out with and low and behold I ran into Scott, who is the supervisor for the Roundhouse retail store, Rhett, who works in storage on Whistler, Danni, who is Rhett's wife and Tristan, who is Scott's friend. We had an exhausting day including about 3 hours of hiking and a number of cornice drop offs. I couldn't quite ride out of the 10 foot drop, landing in a heap after two cartwheels on all three attempts. It was fun never the less. Got some great shots.

Tim and Kirstin came around for dinner. Bron cooked a wicked vegetarian stir fry and Ben made up some of his famous ... I don't think we've come up with a name for them yet. A shot of Vodka with a splash of berry soy beverage topped with Sprite.

It was a bit of an accident actually. Ben thought he was buying juice, but we were all surprised when we saw that pink, milky liquid being poured. It's actually quite refreshing.
I snuck out after dinner and met Kat and Phil at a trendy Bar/Restaurant called Milestones to celebrate Phil's success in his snow board instructor course. We had a few pitchers of mojitos which I quite enjoyed and then headed over to Garfinkles for a bit of boogie. The clubs here suck in the sense that if you don't arrive before about 9pm, they make you queue in the cold for half an hour, not because they are full and waiting for people to leave. You queue so that A) You turn up earlier next week and B) so that the bouncers get $10 handshakes from those who aren't partial to the cold. Grrrr.
Had a bit of a sleep in on Friday morning, then headed up Whistler with Phil. We headed over to our favorite run over the back of Harmony and found a little cornice that was begging to be hiked. We both dropped off like pros and neither of us ate snow. (My memory card on my camera has been full for a few days, hence the lack of visual stimuli). Nearly took out a skier with a kid between his legs on the run down to the Gondola after lunch, but managed to narrowly avoid certain pain.
We dropped in to the GLC for Après and to check out the highlights of the Nokia Boarder-cross finals. Those guys are crazy. I headed home for a shower and some dinner and then went round to Phil's for a night of Texas Hold'em. Those of you have sat up and watched Late Night Poker on SBS will be familiar with this game. I look forward to our next bout.
I worked at Rendezvous on Saturday. Nothing exciting there. I fell asleep on the couch at 6pm, woke up and 9pm, went to bed, woke up at 7am. Nice to let the batteries recharge occasionally.
Worked again on Sunday. Got a few of the gouges fixed up on my board. Bought a six pack on the way home from work and it scanned wrong and cost me $1.87 inc tax (ie the price of a single bottle). I couldn't get out of the store fast enough. Walked home with a big smile on my face. Met Kerri and Kate at the Longhorn for locals night and ran into Ben and some of his work mates.

Ben was starting work at 6:30 the next morning so I was surprised to see him.

Worked again on Monday. It is really quiet in storage during the week and Monday was no exception. It did snow for about 20 minutes which was a nice change from all the sunshine that we have been having lately.

Went out for dinner and Martinis at Milestones with Ben, Bron and Phil in the evening. It was a nice night.
Worked again on Tuesday. There was about 1cm of snow on the railings leading up to my storage shack so I carved this:

Kerri invited me around for steak and veg at her place for teaching her how to snowboard. Kerri lives with Kat, Anna and Holly up at Glacier staff housing (sometimes refered to as the ghetto). Their place is a bit smaller than ours but apparantly is one of the better places in the complex. I think that was my first steak since I have been here so I enjoyed it thoroughly. I pulled a few smile with my choice of desert, a block of genuine Aussie Cadbury chocholate.

This was the view looking up Blackcomb on the way to work on Wednesday. Cool hey.
As I was drifting off to sleep on Tuesday night with the traffic and weather guy from Mountain FM (the only radio station that I am supposed to listen to at work) circulating in my head, it hit me. Take my MP3 player, plug in my car kit (I knew that thing would come in handy again some day) and use the crappy little radio/cassette player! I'm a genious!

I cooked up one of Georgia's famous recipes for dinner. Can't remember exactly what they are called but mmmmm... they're good.

Went around to Phil's to watch a few DVDs after dinner. Amityville Horror scared the crap out of all of us but luckilly we had 40 Year Old Virgin to help us laugh off our night mares. Funny film.
Today is the start of my weekend. I had planned on going down to Function Junction to pick up a few things from the Re-Use-It centre, however this blog post has taken up most of the morning and I'm meeting Phil at the gondy at 11am. I'm picking up my new snowboard tonight, Burton Custom 158cm with Mission bindings. Stay tuned for photos. I'm also exchanging my crappy new boots.
They have been slowly falling to pieces over the last few weeks. I'm getting a pretty good deal on some new ones so I'm not complaining.
Up and coming events include a terrain park lesson with Kat and Phil tomorrow, ice skating on Saturday night, the un-official Brio staff housing Xmas party at the Keg, a get together at Merlins for the retail division (of which I am sort of a part of) on Monday and our Whistler Blackcomb Xmas party at the Fairmont Chateau on Thursday night. Should be a great week. Hope you are all enjoying the heat. I'm going to put some socks on, my feet are cold.
